Associate Professor Megan Smith is a Principal Research Fellow in the Cancer Elimination Collaboration, in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. She is public health researcher, with an academic background in epidemiology, mathematical modelling, health economics, and biostatistics.  Her research has focussed on analyses of large datasets and modelled policy evaluations of cervical screening and HPV vaccination, many of which have directly informed policy decisions and guidelines in Australia and multiple other countries. Associate Professor Smith has a research interest in how these policy decisions translate into real change, including practical aspects of implementation and equity. She recently co-led Supporting Choice for Cervical Screening, a program of work to inform how expanded access to self-collection could be implemented in ways to improve participation and equity in cervical screening.

She has authored more than 120 journal articles and led 50+ government-commissioned reports to evaluate and monitor programs.  She was a member of the working group that developed Australia’s national strategy to eliminate cervical cancer, chaired the Screening Sub-advisory Group, and co-leads annual reports on Australia’s progress towards elimination.
