Associate Professor Kate Simms is an accomplished mathematician and simulation modeller with over a decade of expertise in modelling the impact of cervical cancer prevention strategies, both in high income countries and across low- and middle-income countries. Her pivotal contributions include leading the modelled impact of cervical screening approaches to support updated global cervical screening guidelines released by the WHO in 2021 and co-authoring work which directly supported the WHO Global Elimination Strategy in 2020. Kate has performed a range of modelled evaluations to inform cervical cancer prevention, including evaluating the impact primary HPV testing to inform Australia’s renewed National Cervical Screening Program, quantifying the lives lost due to HPV vaccine hesitancy in Japan, supporting the modelling of therapeutic HPV vaccine evaluations funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and WHO. Kate has authored more than 50 publications. Recognized globally, and in 2022 she was selected to be one of UICC’s ten Young Leaders for 2023-2024.
