“There’s many Victorians who know what this is, and what it’s used for. And for all of you – we’ve got some good news.
Last year, we introduced the cervical cancer self-test. It’s a simple swab you do yourself in a private room at the doctor’s office – taking the awkwardness and discomfort out of having a cervical screening. And it’s just as accurate as the traditional way of doing it.
Two thirds of the people who have taken up the option of the self-test had never had a screening before or were getting screened far less often than recommended – meaning they were more vulnerable to getting cervical cancer.
But now, with early detection and better care – we’re on track to be the first country in the world to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern.
Little changes. Big benefits.”
