Dr Dorothy Machalek

Dr Dorothy Machalek is an epidemiologist based at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Population and Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences, at The University of Melbourne. She is a science graduate from the University of Melbourne and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Dr Machalek obtained her PhD from the Kirby Institute at UNSW in 2014. Dr Machalek’s research interests include the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections and HPV related cancers, the use of molecular epidemiology and biomarkers in cancer screening, and surveillance and prevention of HPV by vaccination. She currently heads Australia’s national HPV infection monitoring program, funded by the Australian Government.
