David Wrede MA MB BChir FRCS FRCOG FRANZCOG is currently Consultant Gynaecologist and Lead for the Dysplasia service at The Royal Women’s Hospital. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne and Honorary Consultant to the Familial Cancer Clinic at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Born in London, he trained in medicine at Cambridge University and St Thomas’ Hospital and subsequently in General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology (London, Oxford and Birmingham) with a period of research at the Ludwig Institute, London, investigating the role of HPV in cervical cancer. David was previously a Consultant in O&G with a special interest in Oncology for NHS Fife, Scotland and subsequently in Taunton Somerset, England before immigrating to Australia over ten years ago with his wife, Orla McNally who is Director of Gynaecological Cancer at The Women’s and the VCCC Gynaecological Tumour Stream.

He is also a member of the Board of the Victorian Cytology Service; Past Secretary to the Committee of Management of the Australian Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and a member of the Medical & Scientific Committee of the Cancer Council Victoria.

He is actively involved in the renewal of Australia’s Cervical Cancer Screening Program, as a member of the Victorian Renewal Advisory Committee and Associate Investigator on the COMPASS Trial and to the NHMRC Centre for the Control of Cervical Cancer (C4). He was previously on the Federal Working Party that authored the new clinical management guidelines for the renewed program that were implemented on 1st December 2017 and is currently a member of the Expert Clinician Panel Reviewing the Cervical Cancer Screening Program for the Department of Health.
