The Eliminating Cervical Cancer 2024 Conference in Melbourne, held from November 27–29, has successfully concluded. We extend our deepest thanks to all who participated and contributed to the event’s success.
Your active engagement, insightful contributions, and enthusiastic collaboration were crucial to the conference’s achievements. Together, we advanced the shared mission of eliminating cervical cancer across Australia and the Indo-Pacific region, furthering knowledge, treatment, and advocacy in this vital area.
Further, we’d like to extend our thanks to all our partners and exhibitors, and especially our principal partner, Roche, for their invaluable support.
Each day of the conference program was framed around one of the three pillars of the World Health Organization’s global cervical cancer elimination strategy:
– Comprehensive vaccination for 90% of girls by age 15
– Effective screening for 70% of women by ages 35, and again by 45
– Treatment and care for 90% of women diagnosed with cervical precancer or cancer.
Conference co-chair, Prof Marion Saville AM reflected that:
‘We’re not yet at the beginning of the end. But we just might be at the end of the beginning. If we adhere to the WHO strategy and keep working in the same direction, we can do this, and each one of us has a role to play.’
As we reflect on the 15-year journey of this conference, we recognise the significant strides we have made together. Over the years, we’ve exchanged invaluable insights, identified critical challenges, and laid the foundation for important advancements in cervical cancer elimination and treatment. Your dedication to excellence and commitment to collaboration have been pivotal in shaping the success of ECC2024 and driving the conversation forward.
